WIL decided to participate to the Commission’s public consultation on Women on Boards (please see the questionnaire attached), which was discussed during WIL’s 4th Anniversary event, celebrated in the presence of Viviane Reding, Vice-president of the European Commission and our Board Member MEP and WIL Board Member Pervenche Berès.
Involvement in this initiative was a unique opportunity to make a real difference by contributing to the policy debate and we are currently collecting WIL Members' feedback on the steps that should be taken to improve the situation of female representation on Boards.
A big thank you to all the contributors. Below you can download a document with the official WIL Response.
Objective of the consultation
As set out in its Work Programme for 2012, the European Commission is considering a legislative initiative to improve the gender balance in the boards of companies listed on stock exchanges. On the basis of the Progress Report "Women in economic decision-making in the EU" presented by Vice-President Viviane Reding on 5 March 2012, the Commission is launching a public consultation of stakeholders on possible measures in this context. This consultation will feed into an assessment of possible EU-level measures to enhance female participation in economic decision-making, which will inform the Commission's decision on whether to propose action and on the form it should take.
